Welcome to Mrs. Carda's Classroom
Long ago an ancient Greek tyrant feared the goldsmith had cheated him by mixing silver into the gold of his new crown. He hired the great mathematician, Archimedes to prove the fraud. This was a very difficult task, Archimedes challenged his mathematical mind but was unable to come up with a test that would not damage the beautiful crown. Taking a break from his studies, Archimedes visited the public baths. As he lowered his body into the water, he noticed that the water level rose. He realized that the displaced water matched the volume of his body. This discovery would help him prove the content of the royal crown. It is said that he was so excited with this amazing discovery that he jumped from the bath and ran down the streets crying out, "Eureka! Eureka!" which means, "I have found it!"
In our classroom, we strive for Eureka Moments and celebrate each one with shouts, praise, and pride.
